Better Built

"Hold It Together" Post-Tensioned Foundation Slab

Foundations Matter

Nobody thinks about the foundation under their home… until it cracks. At Beacon, we do the extra effort to build a better foundation so you don’t have to worry. We start by preparing and compacting the soil, a step that is often overlooked. Next we place foam board insulation between the earth and concrete to eliminate drastic temperature changes that can cause concrete to crack. This also helps insulate the flooring inside your home. Then we pour the concrete, but instead of traditional rebar reinforcement (which is prone to rusting) we use post-tensioning. Post tensioning uses a series of integrated cables that are under constant tension to reinforce the slab. We also wrap the tensioning cable in non-corrosive tubing to prevent future concrete breakdown (which is a real issue with rebar, which rusts when subjected to moisture). Post-tensioned slabs can withstand more pressure without cracking than a rebar slab, which is why this technology is commonly used for bridge decks and parking structures. Your foundation is a part of your home that you don’t see and probably never even think about. But it’s the last place you want to have a problem. That’s why we go to the extra effort to build your foundation right.
