What’s So Great About Living in Edmond?

The City of Edmond, Oklahoma, shows up on a lot of lists, like Money’s “Best Places to Live 2018” (#36 in the entire country) and #1 on Niche’s, AreaVibes’ and The Crazy Tourist’s “Best Places to Live in Oklahoma” lists. CNBC acclaimed Edmond first on its list of “10 Perfect Suburbs”, while Movoto ranked it in the top three Oklahoma City suburbs. People who don’t already know the area often ask us, “What’s so great about living in Edmond?” At Beacon Homes, it’s not a short answer, but since you asked….

It’s a really smart move.

The Edmond School District is superior. That’s not an opinion, but a fact. Parents praise it because their children excel here. GreatSchools gave a perfect “10” rating to four of Edmond’s elementary schools, two middle schools, and Santa Fe High School, which is considered to be one of the best in the state by U.S. News & World ReportCollegeSimply, and SchoolDigger. Imagine the impact of having a renowned school on a college admission application. And, since the high school has a 100% graduation rate, it’s safe to say a lot of students are completing those applications.

The University of Central Oklahoma also calls Edmond “home”. Whether you are a member of the student body, faculty, staff, or resident, it’s great to live in a college town. The university occupies 210 acres and offers 195 degree programs (undergraduate and grad). As a “local”, You’ll be living near a campus adds opportunities for recreation, cultural activities, and recreation that locals enjoy—including cheering on our Bronchos! On weekends, UCO’s Jazz Lab turns into a New Orleans-style music venue for jazz, blues, soul, and rock.

You can live by a lake in Oklahoma.

Arcadia Lake is a reservoir that was created in 1984, spanning 1,820 acres. From anywhere in Edmond, it’s a short drive to enjoy swimming, boating, and water skiing. The lake has become a favorite fishing spot, known for bluegill, catfish, crappie, and striped and largemouth bass that are hauled in from the fishing pier and the heated dock that allows anglers the year-round pursuit. You can spend a day by the lake picnicking at the park, or longer if you want to camp out here. Arcadia Lake’s beautifully maintained trails are a great place for walking, hiking, running, biking, and even horseback riding, and a disc golf course is a fun way to hang out by Arcadia Lake.

Whatever you want, it’s here.

One of the reasons Edmond is rated as one of the best OKC suburbs is the convenient access to all the amenities you need and want. From casual shoppers to hard-core bargain hunters, thrifters to antique enthusiasts, a drive around Edmond will hit everything on your list. Historic Downtown Edmond features one block after another with locally-owned shops. KickingBird Shopping Center, Bryant Square, Spring Creek Plaza, and North Oaks Shopping Center are a few of the local malls where you can find national retailers and local favorites.

Dining is a palatable pleasure, too. With more than 200 restaurants, the only difficulty Edmond’s residents have when it comes to eating out is where to go.

For entertainment, what’s your pleasure? Festival Market Place is home to the Farmer’s Market, but you can also find an ongoing schedule of festivals and specials events happening here. Winner of the 2018 TripSavvy Editors’ Choice Award for “Live Music Venues”, Armstrong Auditorium presents world-class classical and jazz concerts and internationally-renowned ballet companies.
