The Top 6 Activities to Keep Your Family Busy in Oklahoma City During Spring Break

There are two words that a child can utter that will cause a parent to respond with an eye-roll.

“I’m bored.”

Spring break is here, and if you have kids, you’re probably readying for the inevitable complaint. You can have several choices here. Respond with, “It’s not my responsibility to entertain you.” Provide a list of chores to occupy them. Or prepare a more enticing list of family-friendly activities to fend off the onset of boredom.

Here are our top 6 activities to keep your family busy in Oklahoma City during spring break.

1. Spring Thing at the Oklahoma Hall of Fame

Free admission includes hands-on crafting, a movie, story time, and a planting activity. Superhero Day is March 22, and Space Day is March 24.

2. Spring Break Drop-in at National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum

Round up your restless kids and break the boredom with daily events, like building a miniature river raft, learning how to rope, bed roll racing, and taking part in the Trailblazers Trek Hunt & Find.

3. Patio Projects at Northwest Library

On March 22, kids learn the basics of origami to fold their own bug art. With clay quicksand on March 23, they’ll shape sculptures out of magic clay that melts away.

4. Cowboy Round-up at Oklahoma History Center

On March 24, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., this free event gives you a first-hand look at cowboy life. Gather ‘round the chuck wagon and see life on a cattle drive. Come dressed in your best cowfolk finery!

5. India Shrine Circus at the Jim Norick State Fair Arena

Watch a wonderful array of circus performers, including aerialists, acrobats, clowns, and live animals. All proceeds benefit the India Shrine Center.

6. Spring Break in the Garden

Get back to nature with a visit to the Tulsa Botanic Garden, a family-friendly outing that also includes story time every morning during this vacation week, with nature-themed stories followed by an activity, for ages 4 and up.

Still at a loss? Play tourist for a day. Map out the places you’ve always meant to visit but never got around to seeing. Try a different restaurant, browse any of Oklahoma City’s many museums, wander through Bricktown, visit the Oklahoma City Zoo, Myriad Botanical Gardens, and the Oklahoma City National Memorial, to name just a few.
